Directions: Exit Jongno 3-ga Station, Exit 1, walk about 100m toward Jonggak, and you’ll see the entrance to Song Hae-gil. Across the street is YBM Language School, and the workshop is located on the 7th floor of Yuk Uijeon Building! It’s on the same floor as Future Gem Appraisal Center :)
Open the door, walk down the hallway, and you’ll find Let’s Play with Rings at the end.
There are separate bathrooms for men and women on the same floor!
Upon entering, you'll see a display case of accessories.
As you walk in, you’ll notice a quote on the wall:
"If you loved, look ahead; if you will love, look at each other; if you are in love, look in the same direction."
The space really gives off a workshop vibe! We arrived early, so the previous session’s customers were still finishing up.
While browsing the design recipe book,
I came across a cute twisted ring design, which I initially chose.
But after seeing the sample in person, I ended up picking a wavy ring design that was even cuter!
There were some examples of hand-drawn and hand-written designs for engraving, and they were adorable! Since I’d already chosen a wavy ring, I decided to go for a hand-drawn design instead of adding cubic zirconia stones.
We decided to draw something for each other! Since my nickname is "Apple," my partner drew an apple for me, and I drew a bear for them. As we kept drawing, the sketches got better, but we both loved the charm of the original crooked drawings, so we chose our first ones!
After deciding on the design, we filled out a design note.
We also tried on rings to determine the size and thickness!
You can even check out samples of cubic zirconia and birthstones :)
We chose silver rings with the following details:
- Thickness: 3mm and 3.5mm
- Sizes: 11 and 16
- Each ring costs 30,000 KRW
- External engraving on each ring – 30,000 KRW per ring (skipped the cubic zirconia)
- Matte finish (we skipped the gloss)
- Wavy pattern for each ring – 20,000 KRW per ring
Total: 80,000 KRW * 2 = 160,000 KRW (The owner kindly added epoxy for free!)
The workbench!
I put on an apron and got ready! 🛠️
The workshop table was fascinating (covered in lots of doodles, haha).
They handed us the materials to make the rings:
- The one on top is 3.5mm
- The one on the bottom is 3mm
We were told that we would be making the rings for each other!
The first step was bending the ring material around a rod as tightly as possible with our hands.
Then, we used a wooden hammer to carefully shape it into a circle.
I even got a compliment on my hammering skills! 😄
Next, we used fire to fill in the gaps—it was so cool to watch! 🔥
Then, we marked the ring size on our partner’s ring using a permanent marker.
We hammered the ring all around the marked area (flipping it over to do both sides) until it fit perfectly!
Once the fit was just right, the owner took over for some more delicate adjustments.
Time to Polish the Rings!
We got to work on polishing the rings ourselves!
There are four stages of sanding, and we needed to be quite thorough with each one 😄.
We attached a sandpaper bar to the handpiece and stepped on the pedal to make it spin.
A female staff member checked in on us from time to time, giving tips.
She would tell us if we needed to polish more or when it was okay to move on to the next step.
Each stage took about 3-5 minutes, and after four rounds of polishing, the final step was using a yellow silicone bar, which made the ring so shiny that we could see our reflections in it! ✨
Finally, the Finished Rings!
At last, our polished rings were complete! 😊 We finished the basics, but the owner would do the final processing based on our designs and drawings. Once the rings were fully finished, they sent us a photo, and we could choose whether to pick them up or have them shipped.
Two Weeks Later
After about two weeks, we received a message that our rings were ready! We sent payment for shipping, and soon enough, a beautiful little package arrived.
Inside a cute paper bag was a lovely box, and when we opened it, there were the rings—with our hand-drawn designs engraved on them!
I absolutely love how they turned out, and the size is perfect! 😍
