On a rainy day during lunchtime, I suddenly craved some jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and decided to visit Gayang.

This is a high-end, traditional Chinese restaurant with a luxurious atmosphere!

To get there, take Exit 1 of National Assembly Station, walk straight for about 5 minutes, then turn right, and you’ll see the sign.

Before entering, I noticed an enticing banner outside...

The restaurant is located on the basement floor of the Sambo Shopping Center.

Just head down the stairs in the picture, and you’ll find Gayang!

The dining hall is spacious with several tables, and there are over six private rooms of various sizes, making it ideal for group gatherings.

Gayang Menu

We were drawn to the set menu and ordered the Gayang Set Menu for two people, which includes tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), chili shrimp, and your choice of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) or jjamppong for 30,000 KRW.

The meal started with a warm tea, which was a nice touch to whet our appetite.

First up was the chili shrimp! We couldn’t resist and dug in right away! The shrimp was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a perfect blend of spicy, tangy, and sweet flavors that kept us coming back for more.

Next came the tangsuyuk, which was the softest I’ve ever had.

Instead of focusing on crispiness, this version emphasized tenderness, which I absolutely loved.

It was just my style—completely satisfying! ♡

Finally, the jjamppong was served!

It came in a slightly smaller bowl than usual, a portion size between half and full, but it was just right.

The broth was clean and mild, even for someone like me who can’t handle much spice, so I happily finished the whole bowl.

By the time we finished, the combination of chili shrimp and tangsuyuk left us perfectly full and satisfied!

Previously, I had tried the Old-Fashioned Jjamppong (10,000 KRW) and Old-Fashioned Fried Rice with a Fried Egg (10,000 KRW).

The jjamppong was so clean and refined that I would return just for it!
The fried rice with the crispy, almost deep-fried egg on top was a perfect match too!
