A friend of mine, after watching a TV show called The Great Escape, really wanted to try an escape room with high activity and impressive interiors. 😄

After looking at a few options, we decided on Seoul Escape Room Hongdae 2nd Branch and booked the Lost City of the Amazon theme!

We booked about a week in advance, and there was only one slot left on Sunday evening.

Lucky us! 😅

 

A day before the event, they called to confirm the reservation and sent us a message with details.

We paid 54,000 KRW for two people by bank transfer.

 

The location is super convenient! You can get there from Exit 9 of Hongdae Station or Exit 1 of Sangsu Station. It's in the same building as Saemaeul Restaurant on the 3rd floor.

 

The vibe hits you as soon as you get inside the building! 🏢

 

This place is known to be the first escape room in Korea, so we were extra excited to try it out! 😎

 

We chose the Lost City of the Amazon theme.

 

 

There was already an escape room feeling in the air as we headed up in the elevator to the 3rd floor.

 

As soon as we entered, we were greeted at the counter 😊

 

For the bathrooms, the men’s restroom is on the 3rd floor (near the entrance), and the women’s restroom is one floor up on the 4th.

So, I went up to the 4th floor, used the restroom, and came back down to the 3rd floor to get started!

 

We arrived about 25 minutes early, but since there were no other guests ahead of us, we were able to start preparing right away.

 

For the Lost City of the Amazon theme, we stored all of our belongings, including electronic devices, in a locker.

 

We also switched out our shoes for slippers (though this was optional)

 

and took a quick sip of water before heading in. 💧

 

Before starting, we signed the confidentiality agreement and a no-damage waiver, filling in our name, phone number, and email on a tablet.

 

One wall displayed the various themes available at Seoul Escape Room.

Fun fact—I’ve done a few of the ones they offer here at another location in Daegu! 😄

 

We were given a brief explanation of the game and the story behind the Lost City of the Amazon before we began.

You’ve traveled back in time to your father's 1988 apartment using a time machine you developed yourself. Though you can't meet your father, you decide to continue your time travel journey, following clues left behind in his room. According to his travel journal, your father had visited ancient cities in Peru, medieval Italy, and even the CIA headquarters in the United States. You decide to head first to the ancient city in South America. Activating your father’s time machine and selecting “Peru,” a time portal to the last place and era your father visited appears before you.

Stepping through the time portal, you find yourself deep in the heart of a dense rainforest. The lush green jungle surrounds you, and the vibrant sights and sounds of the Amazon fill your senses. But as you take each step, the intense heat and thick humidity begin to weigh down on you. Birds are chirping, and you hear monkeys calling from the treetops—the unmistakable signs that you are in the Amazon Rainforest.

You suspect your father created this time portal for a reason, but no matter how hard you search the area, the stifling heat makes it hard to focus. Then, just as frustration is setting in, you find a backpack hidden behind some thick bushes. Opening it, you discover tools and supplies for exploration and camping. It seems your father left these here for his exploration of the Amazon.

You have about an hour before the time portal closes automatically. After that, there will be no way to return. You must use the items in the backpack to track your father's trail and escape the Amazon. According to the journal you read in your father’s 1988 apartment, he found a lost city of gold built by the ancient Incas. Could that be where he is? Can you find the ancient city of the Inca Empire before time runs out?

We managed to escape with 1 minute and 30 seconds left on the clock—our total time was 73 minutes and 30 seconds.

We barely made it! ⏰

 

At first, we used 4 hints in a row because we couldn’t figure things out and were a bit frustrated.

But as we went on, we started to understand the puzzles better and managed to solve the rest without any additional hints.

 

I had read a few blogs before going, so I knew there were things we should bring along during the game.

I gathered a bunch of stuff… and then realized I left behind the most important items, so we had to go back. 😂

 

The interior design of Seoul Escape Room is always impressive, and my friend (who has only done about 5 escape rooms) was amazed by it.

I’ve done a lot of escape rooms, but this one was still really fun for me too!

 

We wanted a more active escape room, and this one did not disappoint.

It’s definitely more physically demanding than we expected! 😅

 

Both of us are super scaredy-cats, so the dim lighting and Amazon jungle sounds had us a bit on edge at first.

But in the end, there wasn’t anything scary at all—so don’t worry about that!

 

All in all, we were super satisfied with our escape! 💯

 

After the game, there’s a photo zone where you can pick props and take some fun pictures. 📸

 

You can choose from different photo frames that match the Lost City of the Amazon theme.

 

Once you select your frame, the timer starts, and the camera automatically takes the photo.

 

They send the photo file to the email address you entered earlier, so be sure to check your inbox! 📨

 

It’s a great way to capture memories of the game without needing physical copies of the photos.
