Huirak Donkatsu used to be a cozy, slightly run-down spot with a bit of a street food vibe.
I was a regular back then too, but they recently relocated and revamped the place into a much prettier restaurant! 😊
When you walk by at night, you can hear the constant sound of pork cutlets being pounded—it always makes me want to come back the next day!
A Specialized Donkatsu Spot (But with Other Options Too)
The restaurant has a variety of seating options, including large tables and spots for solo diners.
There were a lot of people eating alone and also groups of friends.
" Huirak Donkatsu Menu "
- Homemade Donkatsu 9,000 KRW
- Mul Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles) 7,000 KRW
I always go for the homemade donkatsu—it’s a must-order!
This time, though, I decided to get the mul naengmyeon because it was such a hot day. 🌞
Water and wet wipes are self-serve, but they bring you the side dishes.
I grabbed some extra danmuji (pickled radish) to go with my meal.
They have both a refrigerator and a water purifier for your water needs. 💧
The restroom is inside the restaurant, and it’s gender-neutral.
The restaurant's interior features red walls and cute little sunflowers scattered around.
They also give you vinegar, mustard, and scissors for the naengmyeon, along with plates, pickled radish, and kimchi in cute little jars at each table.
First came the naengmyeon—it had plenty of crushed ice, which was perfect for the hot weather! ❄️
I cut the noodles with the scissors and mixed it all up.
And then, the star of the show: the giant homemade donkatsu!
It's massive! While I’ve taken it to-go a few times, this king-sized pork cutlet is best enjoyed right in the restaurant.
Along with the donkatsu, they serve a fried egg and a little side of macaroni salad.
The donkatsu was so easy to cut and was thin, crispy, and tender—no wonder you hear them preparing it late into the night!
They’ll give you more sauce if you ask, but I liked it as it was, with the crispy texture still intact.
Pairing the cold naengmyeon with the donkatsu was just perfect!
I noticed a lot of other people ordering the bibim guksu and yeolmu guksu (spicy and radish noodles), so I might try one of those next time!
