This place specializes in kamapotbap (steamed rice cooked in a traditional iron pot) for one person.
All menu items are available for takeout and meal kits.
If you're craving a hearty home-cooked meal, this is the spot! It's perfect for solo diners too. 👩🍳👨🍳
Today, I was craving grilled fish, especially galchi (beltfish), so I decided to visit Gama Gooichi, a well-known spot for its grilled fish. 🐟
It’s just a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Seoul National University Station (Line 2).
Once you reach the main road, turn left, and you’ll see the restaurant across the first crosswalk.
Excitement building as I waited at the crosswalk—perfect weather for a stroll! ☀️
As soon as I crossed, I spotted the cozy restaurant on the first floor, giving off a traditional Korean vibe.

They offer a lunch special with slightly cheaper prices.
For takeout, there's a packaging fee of 1,000 KRW, but you can also order the full set, which includes rice, soup, and three side dishes for about 2,000 KRW more. 🍱
They also have new menu items and display where all the ingredients are sourced—so transparent!
You order through a kiosk.
What we ordered:
- Grilled Galchi (Takeout for 1) - 7,500 KRW
- Galchi Jorim (Takeout for 1) - 8,900 KRW
- Pork Rib Kimchi Stew Lunchbox - 12,500 KRW
Even though there were only two of us, we couldn’t resist ordering three dishes because... well, galchi! 😋
The restaurant is mainly set up for solo dining, with simple, clean tables, each decorated with art and flowers, adding a cozy touch. 🌸
Each table has partitions, perfect for those eating alone.
There are signs with tips on how to enjoy the kamapotbap (for in-store dining, as takeout doesn't include the traditional pot). 📝
Self-service zone:
Water, utensils, and soup for kamapotbap (served as nurungji broth) are available for you to grab yourself.
Don’t forget the apron too! 😄
The side dish bar offers a surprising variety!
There’s fish cake, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), onions, and more. It felt like a full meal already! 😄
Once your food is ready, you’ll hear your order number called.
After dining, bring your tray to the self-return area.
We made a promise to dine in next time for the kamapotbap, but for now, we happily took our takeout home. 😊
The packaging was so neat, perfect for a picnic!
I usually wouldn’t consider Korean food as picnic-friendly, but these meals were ideal. 🧺
What we ordered (takeout):
- Pork Rib Kimchi Stew Lunchbox - 12,500 KRW
- Grilled Galchi - 7,500 KRW
- Galchi Jorim - 8,900 KRW
The grilled galchi was super thick, and the bones were easy to remove.
The galchi jorim was a perfect blend of spicy and savory, making it a true rice thief. 🍚
As for the pork rib kimchi stew, it was loaded with tender meat, and the kimchi had that delicious aged flavor.
I loved pairing the stew with the fish cake side dish and rice—so satisfying!
In the end, we were both full and happy with our hearty, nutritious meal. 🥰
