I’d been thinking about trying out Gayang Kalguksu & Mushroom Hot Pot in Yeouido for so long!
Finally, after seeing it on YouTube's "또간집" channel, I decided to give it a try on a Sunday afternoon around 3 PM. 😊
It’s located in the Hongwoo Building – follow the signs downstairs, and you’ll see it right away.
The restaurant offers free parking for an hour if you grab a ticket inside!
Once you step in, you’ll notice they even have a poster gifted by the famous Korean comedian Pungja, giving the place a warm vibe right from the start.
The restaurant’s fame is well-earned, and it’s usually busy with groups, thanks to the linked table setup.
Despite the slightly late hour, it was almost packed because of its popularity, especially after the "또간집" feature!
Self-Serve Bar Highlights
Mushrooms 🍄
Water Parsley (Minari) 🌿
Kalguksu Noodles 🍜
Kimchi
Eggs, Seaweed, and Fried Rice ingredients
The servers bring refreshingly cold ice water right away, and we quickly decided to order the basics:
Gayang Kalguksu Mushroom Hot Pot for 2 (13,000 KRW each)
One extra plate of beef (13,000 KRW) 🥩
Each table has soy sauce and wasabi, plus handy instructions for enjoying your meal.
The hot pot comes loaded with fresh ingredients
already simmering in the broth, including thick noodles and water parsley.
The added beef was brought over quickly, and with the high flame, everything came to a boil fast.
Time to start our mushroom feast!
Once the meat was cooked, we dove in, pairing it with the mushrooms and tasting that rich, clear, and deeply flavorful broth – it’s truly fantastic!
The taste instantly reminded us we needed a bowl of rice on the side
(which is self-serve and unlimited!).
After our fill of mushrooms and meat, it was time for the thick, chewy Kalguksu noodles.
With their extra-thick texture, these noodles almost have a rice cake-like feel to them!
For the final touch, we made fried rice.
We let it cook a bit longer for extra crispiness, and it was well worth it – that sesame oil fragrance combined with the clear broth’s flavors created a perfect ending to the meal.
Near our table was a sign saying, “Once you visit, you’ll keep coming back” – couldn’t agree more! We’ll be back for sure, and next time, if it’s too hot, we might even get it to-go. 😊
